L\u00e1 dentro, um membro da equipa aguardava, sem saber que o seu cargo estava prestes a ser eliminado. O gestor sabia disso h\u00e1 duas semanas. Tinha preparado a conversa quatro vezes. J\u00e1 conseguia imaginar a devasta\u00e7\u00e3o no rosto do homem. O sil\u00eancio no caminho para casa. A ansiedade de um futuro incerto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por isso, continuava a adiar.<br>\u00c9 assim que liderar com empatia se manifesta na pr\u00e1tica. N\u00e3o \u00e9 confort\u00e1vel. N\u00e3o \u00e9 corajoso. \u00c9 paralisante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A neuroci\u00eancia explica porqu\u00ea.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A empatia funciona atrav\u00e9s do cont\u00e1gio emocional \u2013 um mecanismo neuronal que espelha os estados emocionais que reconhecemos nos outros. Quando o seu c\u00e9rebro reflete a dor de outra pessoa, n\u00e3o separa claramente \u201ca dor dela\u201d da \u201cminha dor\u201d. Sente-a tamb\u00e9m. E os seres humanos est\u00e3o programados para evitar a dor. O l\u00edder emp\u00e1tico, sem se aperceber, protege-se ao evitar a conversa que desencadearia essa resposta de espelhamento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O resultado? Feedback atrasado. Decis\u00f5es que se arrastam. Equipas que percebem que algo est\u00e1 errado, mas \u00e0s quais nunca \u00e9 dita a verdade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A compaix\u00e3o funciona de forma diferente.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Quando os l\u00edderes passam da empatia para a compaix\u00e3o, de sentir a dor do outro para querer ajudar a alivi\u00e1-la, ativam-se regi\u00f5es cerebrais completamente diferentes: \u00e1reas associadas ao afeto positivo, \u00e0 recompensa e \u00e0 liga\u00e7\u00e3o social. Como escrevem Hougaard e Carter em <em>Compassionate Leadership<\/em> HBR Press), a compaix\u00e3o \u00e9 uma inten\u00e7\u00e3o, n\u00e3o uma emo\u00e7\u00e3o. O psic\u00f3logo de Yale Paul Bloom acrescenta, em <em>Against Empathy <\/em>que a empatia pode tornar-se uma desculpa conveniente para evitar a honestidade \u2013 e as decis\u00f5es dif\u00edceis de que as pessoas realmente precisam da nossa parte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O l\u00edder compassivo olha para a mesma situa\u00e7\u00e3o e pensa: esta pessoa merece a verdade.
