What questions are you asking yourself?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT \u2013 THE PATH TO INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL TRANSFORMATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recall a couple of years ago, at a networking event, an insurance business owner was complaining about the market crisis, the new governmental health policies and how they were being disruptive to his business for the last 4 to 5 years. He went on saying how difficult it was those days to sell a health insurance, a house insurance or even a car insurance because clients cared only about price having no interest in quality or reliable service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 \u201c<em>There is no loyalty anymore\u201d!<\/em>&nbsp;he said, \u2013&nbsp;<em>\u201cAnd with small businesses disappearing every day, it is getting harder and harder to sell insurances\u2026 this is a big problem for me and my business\u2026 small businesses used to be a very important market for me\u201d<\/em>. He was upset about his situation and very concerned about his future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a personal and professional leadership coach with an extensive background in business and in the corporate world, I couldn\u00b4t help asking\u2026 \u201c<em>If the market changed that much, what are you doing differently to promote your business and your services in this new environment?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He looked at me as if I had just arrived from planet Mars and said: \u2013 \u201c<em>There is nothing I or anyone can do, you don\u00b4t understand\u2026 this is a cycle and until this goes up again there is nothing we can do\u201d!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn\u00b4t want to be unpleasant but I had to know more\u2026 so I asked in a very kind and compassionate way: \u2013&nbsp;<em>\u201cIf this is a cycle and it will take time to recover, how long are you willing to wait? How long can you sustain your business\u201d?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He looked again at me and after recognizing a genuine and sincere concern for his situation, he answered: \u2013&nbsp;<em>\u201cI don\u00b4t know\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I went on a little further\u2026 \u2013 \u201c<em>If this will take a long time to recover and you don\u00b4t foresee any positive evolution in the next few years, have you thought of doing something else?\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>He answered: \u2013&nbsp;<em>\u201cNo, I haven&#8217;t\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I continued: \u2013&nbsp;<em>\u201cMaybe applying all your knowledge, your contacts, your experience in a different business or a different business model?\u201d \u2026&nbsp;<\/em>He answered again: \u2013 \u201c<em>No, I haven\u00b4t thought about any of that<\/em>\u201d \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I said:&nbsp;<em>\u201cWhat about your exit plan? Would now be a good moment to launch it?\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>He answered very slowly: \u2013 \u201c<em>I don\u00b4t have an exit plan\u2026 and he added in a low tone\u2026you ask very good questions\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The quality of your questions will be determinant to the success and the fulfillment of your life, and whether you&#8217;re looking to succeed or not.
